First Visit

27 March 2015
After contacting our partner via email and phone calls for the past few weeks, we went to the place for more discussion with the person in charge and also plan for our activities according to the venue.

Rumah Nur Salam, which includes Pusat Aktiviti Kanak Kanak, Chow Kit, is a 24 hour activity center and 'safehouse' that wants to provide a 'safe,' healthy and loving environment for all children under the age of 18, living or loitering, in and around the Chow Kit area of KL. Children registered at the center are given food, shelter and are exposed to educational, health and recreational activities and programs that otherwise may not be accessible to them.

Rumah Nur Salam is located at Jalan Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur. We can go there easily by public transport, which is from University of Malaya, we ride Rapid KL T632 to University LRT, which costs RM0.80 if we own a Touch n' Go, then read towards Masjid Jamek LRT (RM2.00) and change to Ampang Line to PWTC LRT which costs RM1.20 then walk to Rumah Nur Salam. So the total single journey fare costs about RM4.00, which was quite affordable for all of us.

From the discussion with the management, they agreed to let us hold our acitivities in the place. However, the time and date we set earlier will still be in our discussion because they might not be free on the time. Their educational level are also different so we are advised to change the syllabus according to their abilities.

More discussion will be held by our team to let our project run smoothly.

Signing off.

In the midst of preparation

In order to make our planned activities to run smoothly and also make them more interesting and fun, we decided to take some of our time to buy some of the materials needed. Unfortunately not all of us are available for the suggested time, but we listed the stuffs we need to buy and off we go!

Of course the must-go place we head for is the stationery shop! We took our time choosing on the best product, making sure it is in our budget and also prevent from buying stuffs that we do not need.

People nowadays loved to take "selfie"! There's nothing wrong with it! Look at our happy faces, must be excited and curious to know what activities will we organize, stay tuned for more!

Signing off :)

New Chapter

Despite all of the different activities we are involved in, how hectic and overwhelming our university lives are, yet we are lucky enough to have a group of 14 to complete this course - Social Engagement, where we are required to complete at least 40 hours of the volunteering activities throughout this semester.

After a few sessions of group discussion and also guidance from our adviser Dr. Nur Anisah binti Mohamed @ A. Rahman, we came up with the idea to help children by organizing small activities such as origami lesson and also help them in their studies. We hope that our kind act would help them learn more and also develop skills that should be brought up since young.

During week 3, we finalized our idea and presented and share them with other groups and also the advisers. We are blessed enough to have their approval and agreement on our project.

We are working hard in our project now, including contacting with our partners, getting approval from the management, planning on the activities, and many more! Stay tuned for more interesting reads!
